Concept sketches, illustrations, and other story ideas.

A story about escapism and Maladaptive Daydreaming. I'm exploring the idea of different levels of the fridge and what might lurk there.

With concepts taken from the book 'Dante's Inferno' and the 70's TV show 'The Clangers'

Puppet creation

The first thing was to create the base layer of the doll. Something like a wire that would let me bend and animate it. Next add clay to secure the wire and make some parts not bend, kind of like bones in our bodies.

next, I did a mixture of crochet clothing and sewed pieces to create the costume I wanted for both Mr. Radish and the pumpkin lady.

Thesis Synopsis

Based on British stop motion Tv shows from the 70’s. “The rootlings” explore lesson learning as well as the effects of maladaptive daydreaming or the idea of escaping reality into a fictional world to children.

“This here is a fridge. A large cold cupboard that keeps items cold so they don't spoil as fast. We use fridges to hold food until it's ready to be served either at parties, dinners, or the late night snack. Because us as people are always moving and growing we tend to let things slip by. Sometimes things get lost and fall between the cracks. Just because they're forgotten doesn't mean they aren't still there.”
